Anxiety and Depression

The stress that the body endures on a daily basis can be the root cause of anxiety and/or depression. There are two main neurological “light switches” to the body: parasympathetic and sympathetic responses. The parasympathetic response is the rest and digest nerve pathway.  The sympathetic response is the fight or flight nerve pathway.  Ideally, these two systems balance one another.  Excess or lack of one or the other has negative effects on the body.  This type of stress impacts the endocrine system, mainly affecting two of the body’s glands: the adrenals and the thyroid.

If the body is not well equipped with the proper minerals, nutrients, and spinal alignment in the upper portion of the neck, then the thyroid will not function as it should and excess cortisol is produced by the adrenals.  It is at this point that the body may experience anxiety, depression, fatigue, and irritability.  A decreased metabolism and obesity may be noticed as well as sugar cravings.  As you can see, our environment causes changes that expand to effect many other parts of the body.  Balancing this endocrine system, however, can be as easy as getting your diet on track with a much needed spinal alignment.  If you are struggling with anxiety and depression, please contact us today and let us evaluate you.
